Australian Rugby and Soccer Teams Party on Flight Home From Tokyo

The Australian Olympic soccer and football teams are in some hot water for being too rowdy on their flight home from Tokyo… How did they expect this flight to go? Soccer players and rugby players are two groups known to do a lot of drinking and have a good time and they’re coming off of a few weeks where they presumably trained harder than they ever have and likely eased up on the drinking. Of course they’re going to party it up and get a little rambunctious during the 10 hour flight! Why would you put them on a flight with normal passengers not returning from playing in the Olympics? Two teams returning from the games should justify chartering their own plane where they can celebrate their time in Tokyo without bothering other passengers right? The Australian Olympic Committee boss said they’re going to probe the allegations but I hope that’s just for public appearance and they actually decide to just move on and let the boys be.

The rugby team is also being criticized for leaving the beds broken in the athletes’ accommodations which seems absurd. The Olympic Committee widely publicized that they were putting in cardboard beds that were designed to be broken so who cares if a few actually were? Were they hoping to resell these used cardboard beds? And just to show that I am a reasonable man, the vomit complaints are fair to bring up. You’ve gotta clean up your own puke in the rooms, leaving it is just gross.

Lonzo Ball is Heading to the Bulls

Lonzo Ball will be making his way to the Bulls through a sign and trade with the Pelicans. Everyone on my feed seems to be super excited about this, I didn’t realize Lonzo moved the needle that much. Is Lonzo really so good that this is a big time signing for the Bulls or are people just over excited because it’s the biggest signing they’ve made in a long time? Either way I’m all about it. Welcome to the Windy City Lonzo!

The Green Knight was Awesome

I didn’t have high expectations while on my way to see The Green Knight. I had seen the trailer and thought it looked kind of cool and figured I’d go see it since it had been a long time since I saw a movie in theaters. I certainly did not expect it to be as good as it was. There wasn’t really a dull moment throughout all of Gawain’s journey Whether he was dealing with run of the mill highwaymen or conversing with giants, it was entertaining from start to finish. It also looked amazing. The Green Knight himself is one of the coolest looking characters I’ve ever seen in a movie and the crown that King Arthur wears is so bad ass. The movie also sounded incredible with the soundtrack setting the tone for each moment extremely well. The sounds within the scenes were pretty great too like the noises from the Green Knight’s movements. Some of the parts did get a little confusing at times in my opinion but all and all it was a great movie. I’d give it an 8.1/10.

***SPOILERS***

The beginning of the movie was slightly confusing for me as it seemed to show Gawain’s mom being the one behind the appearance of the Green Knight. I don’t really understand what her plan was here. Did she think another knight would take the challenge? Did she think Gawain wouldn’t go for the kill shot and just rather cut the Green Knight? Or was her plan to put her son in a die or lose your honor situation all along? I’m guessing it’s not the last one since she made him that enchanted belt thing that was supposed to protect him from being struck down as long as he wore it. I guess maybe she just believed he wouldn’t try to kill the Green Knight and this would be his path to becoming a knight (I read an interview with David Lowery, the director, in which he said he based it loosely off of the relationship between him and his mothers which seems odd but whatever).

They totally got me with the old fake out at the end of the movie where he envisioned the rest of his life if he kept the enchanted belt on and left the Green Chapel with his head still on his shoulders. If that had been the real ending it still would have been a great way to end the movie. I really enjoyed seeing his life play out with him becoming king, having a baby with Essel only to take the baby and abandon her because of their class difference, and watching his son die and his kingdom burn to ashes before he finally accepts his fate and removes the belt keeping his head attached while sitting on his throne. What a tragically amazing series of events to come from him not doing the honorable thing and holding up his end of the game. But SYKE! He’s still at the Green Chapel and had just envisioned how the rest of his life would go in his head. This leads to him making the honorable decision and likely the decision he views as best for everyone in the kingdom by removing the enchanted belt and preparing for his head to be chopped off after a beautifully delivered “now off with your head” by the Green Knight.

*Apparently there was a post credits scene that I didn’t stay in the theater for. I’ll have to go back and see it again to catch this one.

Do the Chicago Bears have the 2 Best QBs in the NFC North?

I don’t think much has to be said about Justin Fields. Sure, Matt Nagy has said Andy Dalton will start the season but any NFL fan knows that once Fields gets thrown in he’ll be a top-tier quarterback right off the bat. The only question is how long will it be until he gets the reins because Dalton is looking awesome at training camp. The tweets below show the beautiful passes he’s been throwing, making me think he’s taken the next step and is about to have a breakout year competing with the best QBs in the league. I know you may be thinking “that’s just the Bears twitter account tweeting out highlights,it’s not indicative of any kind of big leap by Dalton” but I disagree. Why would the Bears tweet these if every throw hasn’t been this good? That would just be getting fans’ hopes up for nothing. Now let’s look at the other NFC North quarterbacks.

Packers: Aaron Rodgers is coming off of an MVP season and has consistently been among the top 3 QBs throughout his career, but this off season showed it will be a down year for Rodgers. He hates the Packers organization and simply does not want to be in Green Bay. He made them trade for Randall Cobb so that he can have a friend to just kick back and relax with while he goes through the motions for his last year in Green Bay. I have no doubt he’ll be back to MVP level play when he finds a team he actually wants to play for. Until then, he’ll just be in a holding pattern.

Vikings: Kirk Cousins has just entered the NFL’s Covid protocol and will have to miss at least 5 days of training camp before returning to practice. I’d put Dalton and Cousins pretty close to each other in terms of skill level so these missed reps are really going to cost the Minnesota QB. While he’s sitting in quarantine, Dalton and Fields will be continuing to get better and really separating themselves from Cousins.

Lions: Jared Goff is a decent QB but he’s no Matt Stafford. If the Lions still had Stafford they’d most likely have the best quarterback in the division this season but unfortunately for them he’s gone. Goff will do fine but I haven’t seen any clips of him making overly impressive throws in the first week of camp (I also haven’t looked for any).

Carson Wentz to have Foot Surgery

What a brutal blow for Carson Wentz. It’s got to be disheartening to have an injury like this come up right as you’re getting ready for your fresh start with the Colts and to show everyone that you can get back to playing at a high level. That being said, deciding to go ahead and get the surgery on his foot is definitely the best decision. Why waste time with rest and rehab that probably will just lead to needing the surgery right before the season actually starts anyway? Hopefully the recovery goes well and we’ll see him playing again at the start of the season… unless of course he gets Wally Pipp’ed by Sam Ehlinger or Jacob Eason.

Tarik Cohen Still Walking Gingerly at Practice

This really sucks to see. Apparently Tarik Cohen is still walking around gingerly after tearing his ACL last season. He’s an extremely fun player to watch and one of the guys I’ve been most excited to see on the field again this season. If he’s still not walking at 100%, then I guess we won’t be seeing him at the start of the season. Hopefully he’ll be back to dancing around defenders before the half way point of the season to provide a nice boost for the Bears offense.

Why isn’t Sumo Wrestling an Olympic Sport?

Is it because Japan would dominate it? Surely it wouldn’t take long for an NFL offensive lineman to be ready to compete at a world class level right? You can’t tell me Quenton Nelson wouldn’t need more than a few pointers to be able to toss some sumo dudes out of the ring. Sure, they’d have to miss some training camp to go to the olympics but DK Metcalf was ready to for the 100m so the big boys would be able to as well. USA could take gold if they ever put sumo wrestling in the olympics!

Cubs Trade Anthony Rizzo

Well the Cubs have traded Anthony Rizzo to the Yankees. A move that all Cubs fans likely knew was coming but still hurts all the same. A player who was with the Cubs through a lot of bad times and who was a huge reason they were able to turn it around. On top of that he seems to be an even better person than baseball player off the field. Now that he’s gone I’m prepared for the Cubs to move Kris Bryant and Javy Baez to really mark the end of an era. It will be nearly impossible to have a guy that’s as loved by Cubs fans as Rizzo was ever again (unless they go on another 100+ year World Series drought).
